Accurate and cost effective interface/level measurements are available
with Neutron Backscatter. This technology is based on detecting relative
differences in hydrogen concentration. High energy neutrons are emitted
from the Am-241 source and are scattered back as low energy thermal
neutrons. The low energy neutrons are then counted with a neutron
detector. Plotting the resulting counts yields subtle differences that
represent different types or phases of the material inside the vessel or
pipe.
NEUTRON BACKSCATTER TANK APPLICATION
Neutron Backscatter is utilized for numerous types of measurements. One
common application is storage tanks (both circular and spherical).
Storage tanks are scanned at several points round the circumference in
order to develop a profile of the product inside the tank (hydrocarbon,
water, sludge, etc.).
